The BAT Foundation is a health & wellbeing charity delivering a specialised Table Tennis Alzheimer's Therapy programme providing UK care settings with access to tailored equipment, expert training, and free resources

What we're about
With numbers of those affected by Alzheimer's rising - the latest analysis from the Office of Health Economics show that 1 in 3 born in 2015 will be diagnosed with dementia in later life, plus as the cost of treating the disease set to increase massively over the next 10 years, now is the time for action and searching for alternative treatments...this is the goal of BAT.

Delaying Alzheimer's onset by five years could save 30,000 lives a year. Whilst the causes of dementia remain unclear, interventions focusing on encouraging more regular physical activity are likely to be particularly effective at combating the disease.. With findings linking table tennis as a potentially effective treatment for the symptoms of on-set Alzheimer's, BAT is committed to a campaign of:
  • RESEARCH: Exploring the benefits that table tennis therapy could have for those living with on-set Alzheimer's
  • DEVELOPMENT: Creating specialist equipment that will directly support this therapeutic activity
  • DELIVERY: Providing specially devised programmes and expert training for care settings and staff

Now is a crucial time for action on dementia. Research is necessary to develop innovative ways to prevent Alzheimer's, drive advances in new methods of treatment, and find fresh ways of caring for people affected by the condition. BAT thinks this is an incredibly important area to explore and will be delivering an original piece of research to show how table tennis could:
  • Improve hand-eye coordination
  • Stimulate the Hippocampus
  • Extend long-term memory
  • Delay cognitive decline
  • Enhance motor skills
